Description

PHO Grand Rounds: Managing patients with adverse events following immunization
in the Special Immunization Clinic Network

Public health management and reporting of adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) is an essential component of the vaccine safety system which requires collaboration between immunization providers and all levels of the public health system to be successful. During this session, participants learn about the resources available through the Special Immunization Clinic Network to support clinicians and public health professionals in managing patients with AEFIs. We examine best practices for managing AEFIs through review of common and complex AEFI scenarios encountered in the Special Immunization Clinic Network.

Presenter: Karina Top

Karina Top is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Community Health & Epidemiology, Dalhousie University and a Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist at the IWK Health Centre. She is a clinician-scientist with expertise in vaccine safety and AEFIs, and leads the Canadian Immunization Research Network’s Special Immunization Clinic Network.
